Day 46: New car. No workout.

15 04 2010

Well today was a big day. Since my oldest daughter earned a full academic scholarship to Auburn (War Eagle!) I had to pay up on my promise of a car. And since the school is 440 miles away I needed to get her a dependable and safe car. My first car bought new out of college was a Honda CRX HF. It got high 40 mpg, even breaking 50 mpg highway. Man that was a great car. I also currently own a 1997 Honda CRV – also a great car. Honda’s just go and go and go.

I started out looking for a 2-3 year old Honda civic. With 20-40K miles they were asking 14-16K. Well, with the recession and Toyota offering deals because of their PR nightmare, Honda is having to discount as well – a rarity for Honda. Bottom line, I bought a  2010 Honda Civic Sedan Lx with a list price of $19,115 for only $16,415 (before title, tax and dealer prep) PLUS they are offering 1.9% financing for up to 60 months (0% for 36 months).

If you’re looking for a car and want to see if you’re getting a good deal, in addition to Consumer reports and Kelly Blue book check out TrueCar.com. I think my price was about as good as I could get. Check it out.

My wife and I took the family out to dinner and drove them to a parking lot where I had stashed the new ride. One very happy young lady. And daughter number two was also happy since she now gets the CRV (and her license in a few days). Plus I totally blew my diet at a local rib joint.

No workout but a very good day. Sincerely.
