Day 75: Pfeiffer Scissors. You cannot be serious!

18 05 2010

I am 75 days in and have tried everything Tony has thrown at me.  Sure, I have since ditched YogaX in favor of CardioX but I tried and completed YogaX a few times, I just don’t like it.

Ab RipperX. (wait for it…) I hate it…but I love it.  and over the past 75 days I have gotten a LOT better and am able to do (almost) everything with no breaks and my form continues to improve. I can do everything except Pfeiffer Scissors (PS). Every time I attempt them I flash back to elementary school PE class and remember being told to do leg lifts and thinking A) my legs weigh more than my torso and B) that hurts my lower back. I still think it’s a crazy exercise.  I still attempt it but modify it to have the leg that is supposed to be straight up bent up to my chest like a knee up. The exercise still kills so I guess that’s better than skipping it.

There are a few other exercises that I think are designed more to be “different” than because they are particularly good exercises.

Oh here’s one more Congdon Curls. If that’s not a recipe for back problems I don’t know what is. The objective is (I believe) to fix the elbow in place and really isolate the bicep. I now do my substitute standing version by simply bringing my elbows into my gut to prevent any upper arm movement. Same effect with no stress on the back.

I think Tony would agree with these modifications. I am not a Spring chicken and when my body tells me something is potentially damaging I have to listen. And yes, I know Tony is a few years older than me and does all this but well… He’s Tony Horton and I’m not.
