Tonight was my first night at the pool for the year. My third grader will brave the water at any temperature but I typically wait for the water to warm up just a bit more.
There is a (somewhat decrepit) workout room right off the pool so I decided to see if I could do legs and back sans video. I printed out the workout list and took it with me. All in all it worked out pretty well. Only one other guy was in there so I had free rein. He was probably wondering why I was doing umpteen lunges when there was a perfectly good universal weight machine available but I wanted to stick with the P90X plan.
For the pull-up portion I did use the universal machine and set the pull down bar to 170 lbs. I weigh in now around 162 buck naked. To my surprise I was able to do in excess of 12 reps on just about everything. Bear in mind that I have been using resistance bands exclusively for the last 82 days – no actual pull-ups.
I’d like to think I could actually do that many pull-ups but I think it’s more likely that the machine is not accurate; maybe the pulleys make it easier (although they are not compound pulleys – just up and over). I’ll find out when I do my day 90 fit test comparison and try some real pull-ups.
At any rate the workout room could be a partial answer to my Summer workout dilemma.
UPDATE: I am stuck on day 82 for another day. Worked all day. Had to catch up on mowing the lawn after work. Rain had prevented me cutting it for a while and it was getting embarrassing. Following that a very long church related meeting so no workout last night. Bummer. But life happens.
